The conference "Actual issues of Ukraine's integration into the European security space" was successfully held

On May 18, 2023, the All-Ukrainian scientific-practical conference with international participation “Actual issues of Ukraine’s integration into the European security space” was successfully held at the Hlukhiv Oleksandr Dovzhenko National Pedagogical University in a mixed format within the framework of the Erasmus+ project Jean Monnet modules J621046-EPP-1- 2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE “European political integration: historical retrospect and modernity” with the support and assistance of the Vice-Rector for Scientific Work and International Relations Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Nataliya TKACHENKO and the educational and methodological department (supporting project and international activities (head candidate of philological sciences, associate professor Dmytro MARYEV).

The co-organizer of the conference was Niğde Ömer Halisdemir Üniversitesi Anasayfa (Turkey), which participated in its preparation and holding. The Center for International Security and Partnership (Lviv), Ukrainian State University named after Mykhailo Drahomanov, Sumy Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, Kharkiv Skovoroda National Pedagogical University , Military Institute of Telecommunications and Communications named after Heroes of Kruty (Kyiv) and others also took an active part in the conference.

Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, senior teacher of the Department of Foreign Languages and Teaching Methods Vira BUTOVA provided simultaneous translation.

The areas for discussion for the plenary and sectional parts of the conference were determined: anti-crisis regulation of the European Union in the conditions of a full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine, prospects for Ukraine’s membership in the EU and NATO, scientific and methodological principles of introducing aspects of European security policy into the educational process.

The plenary session of the All-Ukrainian scientific and practical conference with international participation was solemnly opened by the moderator, academic coordinator of the project, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology and History, Olena CHUMACHENKO, who noted that this conference is a kind of summary of the results of the project implementation, successful realization which has been carried out by the University since 2020.

The first Vice-Rector of the University, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Maryna KHROLENKO, who emphasized the relevance of the topic and the importance of introducing security issues into the educational process of higher education institutions, addressed the participants of the conference with a welcome speech, and the Vice-Rector for Scientific Work and International Relations, Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Nataliya TKACHENKO, who thanked the Turkish partners for cooperation within the framework of Erasmus+ projects, including academic and teaching mobility.

The first speaker, Viktoria FEDORCHAK, PhD, lecturer in military studies at the Swedish Defense University (Stockholm, Sweden), gave a speech “Integration of Ukraine into the European security space: harmonization of training programs on security, crisis management and military exercises” (in English).

About education 4.0 as a factor of the European development of Ukraine and a security component of the “Marshal’s Plan for Ukraine”, Mykhailo Zhuk, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor, Associate Professor of the Department of Social and Humanitarian Education of the Sumy Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education spoke.

Hilal ZORBA BAYRAKTAR, PhD, lecturer at the Department of Political Sciences and International Relations of Nigde Omer Halisdemir University (Turkey) reported on the mediating role of Turkey in the Russo-Ukrainian war and European security (in English), and Çiğdem ŞAHİN, PhD, associate professor of the Department of Political Sciences and International Relations relations of Nigde University Omer Halisdemir (Turkey) in her report raised the issue of European security in Turkish higher education in bachelor’s programs in international relations (in English).

The issue of European civic consciousness and responsibility, namely, its Ukrainian youth aspect, was raised by Oleksandr MALYOVANY, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of World History and Archeology of Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian State University.

Olena CHUMACHENKO, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor, director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Philology and History of Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University named after Oleksandr Dovzhenko, delivered a report on the topic “Prospects and challenges of cooperation between the EU and Ukraine in the field of security and defense policy” (in English).

The meaningful and informative reports of the speakers aroused interest and active discussion among the participants of the event.

Based on the results of the conference, the materials of the participants’ reports will be published.
