All-Ukrainian Scientific and Methodological Seminar "Methodology of Teaching European Integration"

On December 15, 2020, the all-Ukrainian scientific and methodological seminar “Methodology of teaching European integration” was held as part of the Erasmus+ project Jean Monet Modules “European political integration: historical retrospect and nowadays” 621046-EPP-1-2020-1-UA-EPPJMO-MODULE, which is implemented at the Oleksandr Dovzhenko Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University (academic coordinator Olena Chumachenko).

Due to the observance of anti-epidemic measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic, communication took place online on the ZOOM platform.

The purpose of the seminar was to discuss the experience of using European integration teaching methods by the participants of the event, to combine their own educational practices with foreign experience, to acquire practical knowledge of pedagogical skills for teaching various aspects of European integration.

Halyna Kuznetsova, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, associate professor, first vice-rector of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University addressed the participants of the seminar with a welcoming speech on behalf of the rector, in particular, noted that the module “European political integration: historical retrospect and nowadays” should solve the problem of insufficient awareness among young people about the EU as a political actor and will contribute to the education of students’ pedagogical culture in the field of formation and promotion of EU experience in implementation international security.

The participants were addressed by Petro Krainik, a Jean Monnet expert of the Erasmus+ National Office who congratulated the University on the start of the project and emphasized the importance of the topic chosen for the event.

The work of the theoretical part of the seminar was directed by the moderator Olena Chumachenko, candidate of historical sciences, associate professor, the head of the Department of History, Law and Teaching Methods of the Oleksandr Donzhenko Hlukhiv National University. The speeches of the speakers began with the report of the head of the board of the Ukrainian Association of Teachers and Researchers of European Integration (APREI) Iryna Sikorska on “Teaching activity” as a special teaching activity within the framework of Erasmus+ Jean Monnet projects.

The relevance of the topic of the seminar is evidenced by the large number of speakers from different parts of Ukraine, who delivered highly professional and meaningful reports on teaching methods of various aspects of European integration, and also willingly shared their experience of implementing Erasmus+ projects. The geography of the participants was quite representative: they were scientific and pedagogical workers of Mykhailo Drahomanov National Pedagogical University, National Academy of Public Administration under the President of Ukraine, Donbas State Pedagogical University, Volodymyr Hnatyuk Ternopil National Pedagogical University, Mykola Hogol Nizhyn State University, Sumy Regional Institute of Postgraduate Pedagogical Education, Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, O.O. During the training session as a component of the seminar, the moderator was Andriy Hrytsenko, Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Senior Lecturer of the Department of History, Las and Teaching Methods of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko Hlukhiv National Pedagogical University, organized a discussion on problematic and topical issues on the topic “Development of Ukrainian education in the context of European integration: achievements and shortcomings.”

More than 70 participants of the seminar, by voting from among four possible areas of discussion, chose the most relevant discussion of the issue “Digital development of Ukrainian education in the context of European integration processes.”

As a result of the discussion, the participants of the seminar developed a number of proposals:

Actively develop and implement educational disciplines on the issue of European integration in the system of professional training of future teachers;

Contact the education and science management bodies with a proposal for a wider implementation of optional courses on the issue of European integration into the educational training of students of general secondary education institutions;

Widely introduce information, communication and digital technologies to the educational process of educational institutions for the effective organization of mixed learning in the conditions of the global pandemic of COVID-19;

Actively use interactive learning methods as the most effective during teaching courses on European integration in educational institutions;

Regularly conduct a series of all-Ukrainian scientific and methodological seminars “Methodology of teaching European integration” in 2021-2022.

To introduce training programs on issues of European integration in the system of professional training of future teachers.

Therefore, during the all-Ukrainian scientific and methodological seminar “Methodology of teaching European integration” held on December 15, 2020, its participants gained knowledge and experience that they will be able to use in their teaching activities, as well as to improve their professional teaching skills in accordance with modern requirements for learning materials on European integration.
